Amateur Arthurian Societies and Journals

This website is dedicated to preserving and sharing the journals and newsletters published by amateur Arthurian societies between 1965 and 2010. These publications, produced long before the rise of the internet, were vital channels for enthusiasts to share ideas, articles, and research. Often mimeographed, photocopied, or printed in small runs, these A5-sized, staple-bound “zines” were typical of niche communities—whether focused on music, fiction, politics, alternative thinking or, in this case, the enduring legends of King Arthur.

Because of their ephemeral nature, complete collections of these journals are rare and seldom found in archives or national libraries. Here, I have made freely available the publications of two of the longest-running and most influential Arthurian societies. They are accessible via the links at the top of the page. I hope to expand the collection in the future as more materials become accessible.

While academic Arthurian studies are well supported by journals, bibliographies, and scholarly monographs, the vibrant world of amateur publishing is often overlooked. Yet these works offer unique insights, personal perspectives, and valuable information found nowhere else.

Many of the individuals involved in creating these publications have generously contributed materials and shared their recollections of the societies’ histories. Their support has been invaluable and to them I extend my sincere thanks.
